FROSTBURG, Md. – Ido Chalamish's 58
th minute goal gave Point Park the season sweep over Frostburg State on Sunday evening at Bobcat Stadium in western Maryland. The game also clinched a home playoff game for the Pioneers in the upcoming MEC Men's Soccer Tournament.
The Pioneers are currently 7-7-1 overall and 7-4-1 in league play. At 22 points in the standings, Point Park is currently in third place in the eight-team league. The Pioneers will be at least the No. 4 seed in the tournament (six-team field) and will host a playoff game at Highmark Stadium.
Frostburg State is currently in fifth place in the MEC standing with 16 points (5-8-2, 5-6-1 MEC).
Chalamish's goal was his fourth of the season and was assisted by
Giovanni Pezzi.
Statistically, Frostburg State had a 14-12 advantage in total shot attempts. Point Park held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. The Pioneers also held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.
Gregorio Capponi recorded his second shutout of the season in the win. He tallied five saves on the evening to keep a clean sheet.
Point Park will wrap up the regular season with three-straight home games, beginning on Wednesday against Davis & Elkins. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Highmark Stadium. The Pioneers will look to avenge an early season road loss to the Senators (3-1) back on Oct. 1.
