INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Point Park women's basketball team fell 90-59 at the Walker Convocation Center on Wednesday night against West Virginia State to fall to 7-15 overall and 6-11 in Mountain East Conference play.
The Pioneers offense was led by
Alexis Giles who dropped 22 points against the Yellow Jackets. The junior guard went 6-for-11 from the floor, 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, and 7-8 from the free throw line.
Emma Pavelek was the only other Point Park player to reach double figures as Pavelek had 13 points and four rebounds in the effort. As a whole, the Point Park offense shot 35.6 percent from the floor and 63.2 percent from the free throw line.
Offensively West Virginia State saw success from the floor as the largest lead on the night was 32 points during the fourth quarter that saw the Yellow Jackets up 87-55. The night also featured a 16-0 run on the offensive attack for West Virginia State.
For the Yellow Jackets, Baylee Goins scored 16 points while Hallie Bailey and Ashley Kerekes each scored 14 points on the night for West Virginia State. As a team West Virginia State shot 43 percent from the floor. The Yellow Jackets also controlled the glass, outrebounding Point Park 48-43.
Point Park will return to Pittsburgh for a Saturday afternoon matchup against the University of Charleston at CCAC-Allegheny with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
