PITTSBURGH – The Point Park women's soccer team fell 1-0 to non-conference opponent Edinboro in a Wednesday night matchup at Highmark Stadium.
The Fighting Scots struck first as Jada Cole found the back of the net in the 16
th minute on an assist from Emily Vogel to put Edinboro up 1-0.
The rest of the first half remained scoreless with the Pioneers holding the 7-4 advantage in shots while Edinboro had the slim 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Point Park put up an impressive 18 shots in the second half but couldn't find the back of the net as Edinboro keeper Virginia Zabala recorded seven saves in the second half to preserve the Fighting Scots 1-0 lead to secure the shutout.
In the matchup, Point Park had 25-13 advantage in shots and a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal over Edinboro. Point Park goalkeeper
Frederieke Rijlaarsdam recorded six saves in goals in 90:00 minutes of action.
With the loss Point Park falls to 0-1-1 going into conference play. The Pioneers will begin Mountain East Conference play this weekend as Point Park welcomes Wheeling to Pittsburgh. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Highmark Stadium. Saturday's game will also be Rookie Day for the Pioneers.
