PITTSBURGH – Point Park took a 2-0 lead early in the second half and held on for a 2-1 homecoming victory over Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.
The win improves Point Park's record to 4-2-1 on the year, including a 3-1 mark in MEC play. Frostburg State falls to 3-3-1 on the year (1-2-1 MEC).
Jurnee Durrett-Finney scored in the 37
th minute to give the Pioneers and early 1-0 lead in the game. Durrett-Finney's goal was assisted by
Anne Barbosa in front of the net.
After halftime, the Pioneers added to their lead in the 56
th minute on a goal by
Rebecca Pihlgren. Pihlgren's league-leading fifth goal of the season was assisted by
Paula Sole'. Sole' is now tied for the league lead in assists with four on the year.
Frostburg State finally got on the board in the 75
th minute when Carly Gillette found the back of the net with an assist from Elena Fernandez.
Frederieke Rijlaarsdam had a big day in the Point Park goal with eight saves for the Pioneers.
Frostburg State held a 28-16 advantage in total shots in the game, including a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. FSU also held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Point Park will return to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Davis & Elkins. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
