INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Point Park snapped its three-game losing streak with a 93-87 win over West Virginia State on Saturday at the Walker Convocation Center in Institute.
The Pioneers shot 55 percent from the floor (31-56) with 17 3-pointers in the victory. Point Park also outrebounded State by a 34-30 margin.
With the success from behind the arc, Point Park finished the game with 21 assists on 31 made baskets.
Point Park scored 52 first-half points after shooting 19-of-30 from the floor (63.3%) in the first 20 minutes. The Pioneers went to the locker room with a 52-46 lead.
West Virginia State shot 49 percent from the floor (32-65) but went just 5-of-21 from three.
The Pioneers had five double-figure scorers in the win, led by
Grant Welch with 24 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
Aidan Anderson chipped in 23 points. Point Park also got 19 points, five rebounds and five assists from
Kaden Warner, 12 points and seven assists from
Jaylen Stewart, and 10 points from
Greg Williams. The starting five accounted for 88 of Point Park's 93 points in the win.
Welch drained six 3-pointers to spark his team-high scoring performance.
Aymeric Toussaint scored a game-high 30 points to lead West Virginia State in the loss. Trey Harris added 27 points and seven rebounds.
Point Park will travel to Fairmont State for another big conference matchup on Wednesday night. Tip is slated for 7:30 p.m. from Joe Retton Arena.
