WHEELING, W.Va. -- Point Park men's basketball dropped a heartbreaking decision to Davis & Elkins in the MEC Tournament on Wednesday, falling 75-73.
The ninth-seeded Pioneers and eighth-seeded Senators went back and forth in the second half, with Vegas Evans converting on his layup with 27 seconds left to play. D&E's defense stood tall, picking up the win. Wednesday's game featured 13 ties and 15 lead changes.
Point Park's Aidan Anderson recorded his sixth double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 27 points to go with his 12 rebounds. Jaylen Stewart and Kaden Warner chipped in 10 and 9 points respectively.
The Pioneers made 25 field goals and shot at a 38.5% rate, including 23.8% (5/21) from 3-point range. Anderson converted on 9 of his 18 field goals, and tied season highs in free throws made (8) and free throw attempts (10). Point Park's 18 made free throws set a new season high.
Davis & Elkins featured four players with double-digit points in Dontre Jenkins (19), Matthew Gray (17), Vegas Evans (12) and Nnadoz Okoroji (11). Malachi Hamption led the game with 13 rebounds, nine of which were defensive.
