PITTSBURGH – It took over 88 minutes, but
Rebecca Pihlgren found the back of the net to lift Point Park to a 1-0 win over Frostburg State on Sunday afternoon at a rainy and cool Rooney Field on Duquesne University's campus. The unassisted goal was her second game-winner and third-overall score of the season.
In a great defensive performance by both teams, Frostburg State held a 13-8 advantage in total shots, including a 6-2 edge in on-target attempts. FSU also led 8-0 in corner kicks.
Aside from Pihlgren's game-winner, Point Park's only other on-target shot came in the 67
th minute by
Austyn Burkett. In total, Pihlgren attempted four total shots, while
Meea Irwin added two, and
Ariana Obregon and Burkett added one each.
In goal,
Nicole Kuchinski recorded her fourth shutout of the season, totaling five saves to hold Frostburg State off the scoreboard. Kuchinski has allowed just two goals with 26 saves in her six starts this season.
Point Park will travel south to Concord on Wednesday afternoon for a noon kickoff in Athens.
