PITTSBURGH – It took just over 75 minutes to break the scoreless deadlock but Point Park's
Eliya Adjo scored her second career goal (first of the season) to lift Point Park to a 1-0 homecoming win over Glenville State on Sunday afternoon at Duquesne University's Rooney Field in Downtown Pittsburgh.
The second-half goal was assisted by
Julia Rusiecki on a breakaway down the center of the field.
With the win, Point Park improves to 5-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in league play. Point Park is currently tied for second in the MEC North with Frostburg State (16 points). Both teams are just one point behind Fairmont State (17) in the division standings.
Despite the loss, Glenville State is still tied for first (with West Virginia State) with 12 points in the MEC South Division standings. GSU is 4-5 overall and 4-3 in the league so far this season.
Statistically, Point Park held a 15-5 advantage in shots, including an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. Both teams had two corner kicks.
Rebecca Pihlgren and Rusiecki led Point Park with three shots apiece, while
Maria Gomez and
Meea Irwin each fired two shots for the PPU offense.
Defensively, led by goalkeeper
Nicole Kuchinski, the Pioneers allowed just two shots on goal and recorded their sixth shutout in the last seven games. Point Park and Kuchinski haven't allowed a goal since Sept. 16.
Point Park remains at home to host West Virginia State on Wednesday evening at FNB Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
