Point Park University Vice President of Athletics Scott Swain announced the hiring of Joseph Lamplot IV as the head coach of the women's wrestling program on July 16, 2025.
"Joseph was a prime candidate for this position considering his recruiting experience," said Swain. "His enthusiasm and drive will help build Point Park women's wrestling. We are all delighted he will be joining the Pioneer family."
Lamplot comes to Pittsburgh after serving as the assistant women's wrestling coach and recruiting coordinator at Mountain East Conference member West Liberty University. At West Liberty, Lamplot was responsible for teaching and developing wrestlers while also recruiting nationwide for the newly launched program. During the 2024-25 season, the Hilltoppers had five wrestlers compete at the NCWWC National Championships in their first year as a competitive program. Additionally, he recruited and helped develop six NCAA Women's Scholar All-Americans in 2024-25.
Lamplot was instrumental in recruiting West Liberty's initial roster of student-athletes.
"I am excited to join the Point Park University family," said Lamplot. "The campus and university are unique and special being in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh. More importantly, I'm excited to build a special program that will develop young ladies into outstanding women on and off the mat.
"I want to thank VP of Athletics Scott Swain and the entire selection committee for this tremendous opportunity. I'm excited to be a part of the team atmosphere within the athletics department and university."
Prior to West Liberty, Lamplot served as the head women's wrestling and assistant men's wrestling coach at Manchester High School in North Manchester, Indiana in 2021. While at Manchester, Lamplot had the largest number of female wrestlers of any small school in the state of Indiana. During his time, two of his athletes qualified for the state tournament with one earning a fourth-place finish while collecting academic All-State honors.
At Manchester High School, Lamplot also served as the club president and director of coaching for the Squires of the Roundtable. Lamplot found success within the club as he coached two high school showcase national qualifiers, mentored two Fargo National Team members, had three athletes place at the prestigious Ohio Tournament of Champions, and coached the first junior division USAW Folkstyle Nationals All-American female in the county's history. At the Ohio Tournament of Champions, Lamplot led the team to a fifth-place finish in the nation among the "small club" division.
Lamplot also served on the coaching staff at Wabash College from 2008-10 as an assistant and recruiter. At Wabash, Lamplot helped coach a pair of NCAA Division III national qualifiers. In fact, Lamplot successfully recruited the top recruit from the state of Indiana that went on to finish third in the state tournament. Lamplot also helped to successfully recruit a multi-time scholar All-American during his time with the Little Giants.
Prior to Wabash, Lamplot began his career on the wrestling staff at Bluffton High School in Indiana from 2006-08.
Lamplot has also served as a mindset coach during his career, having coached four Fargo national champions at the junior and high school levels.
Lamplot earned a Bachelor of Science degree in history from Manchester University (Ind.) in 2006. He has completed several USA Wrestling certifications (copper, bronze, silver, teal, and coaching philosophy).
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Lamplot is engaged to MeMe Riley. Lamplot has an eleven-year-old son, Isaiah.
