Point Park's unbeaten streak ends with 2-1 home defeat to Shawnee State

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University men's soccer fell to visiting Shawnee State (Ohio) University on Saturday night at Highmark Stadium, 2-1. The Pioneers (7-3-3, 4-1-1 RSC) fell behind, 2-0, to have their seven-game unbeaten streak stopped. 

Point Park had not lost in a month and a half with the last defeat being 2-1 to Warner (Fla.) on Sept. 3. The Pioneers were 4-0-3 overall and 4-0-1 RSC during their last six weeks. 

The Pioneers had to face a deficit early on Saturday night versus Shawnee State (4-5-4, 3-1-2 RSC). Matheus Camargo struck from about 25 yards at the 8:21 mark to put the Bears ahead on the road. 

Shawnee State carried that 1-0 lead into the halftime locker room with Point Park holding a 6-5 lead in shots to that stage. The Bears' had just the one shot on goal, and Point Park had none on frame at the half. 

Then SSU pushed the lead to 2-0 on Joao Toledo's tally at the 55:39 mark. 

Point Park built more offense in the second half with 12 shots the final 45 minutes with SSU again getting five. The Pioneers had four of those on target, including Baptiste Ferrand scoring in the 61st minute. Ferrand finished on the far left post after Philipp Harder delivered the cross from the right side. 

After moving within a goal, Point Park had chances but could not convert the equalizer. The Pioneers had nine shots and three corner kicks after their goal. The Bears held on with Eric Green having all three of his saves the second half. 

Point Park will be on the road for two games next weekend Oct. 19 and 21 at Midway (Ky.) and WVU Tech.
