Box Score PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University men's soccer earned a 2-0 victory on Senior Day to conclude the regular season and power into the playoffs. The Pioneers honored their 11 seniors prior to the game and proceeded to clinch the No. 3 seed in the upcoming RSC Championship.
Senior Philipp Harder scored both goals to give him 13 on the year, and the defense pitched a shutout for the sixth time this season.
Point Park (9-5-3, 6-3-1 RSC) registered third place in the RSC standings with 19 points on the year. The No. 3-seeded Pioneers will host No. 6 Midway (Ky.) in the quarterfinals Nov. 4 with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Cupples Stadium.
Point Park honored its 11 seniors before the match for Senior Day. The senior class includes captains Harder and Korby Ring, Jaume Genovard, Matheus Lima, Peter Holt, Enrique Fernandez, Lucas Souza, Agustin Rodriguez, Andres Sanchez, Samuel Papafio and Mattia Vecchi.
Harder scored midway through each half to build the 2-0 win. The first one game in the 23rd minute when Genovard fed him a pass, and Harder made a move around the keeper.
The 1-0 lead carried into halftime with Point Park holding a 5-3 lead in shots to that point. The second half was even in that department with each team getting six shots off.
Harder pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 77th minute with the assist from Adel Bouriah.
Defensively, the nine shots allowed for Point Park had only three of those come on goal. Point Park took 13 fouls, and each team allowed four corner kicks.
Eduard Garcia improved his record to 9-5-3 playing every game for the Pioneers as goalkeeper. He owns all six shutouts for the team this year.
Point Park is one of eight teams in the RSC Championship, which will occur Nov. 4-11 at campus sites across the conference. The higher seed will host each game with the winner advancing to the NAIA National Championship. Click the link below for RSC postseason info.
