Box Score PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University men's soccer extended its unbeaten streak to six games with Saturday's dominating performance over St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) College, 9-0, at Highmark Stadium. The Pioneers (7-2-2) improved to 4-0 in the River States Conference with the victory.
Point Park had a 3-0 lead at halftime before piling up six more goals the second half. Point Park dominated the play with a 31-2 advantage in shots. The Pioneers had three players with a brace Philipp Harder, Moritz Sarfert and Matheus Lima off the bench.
Harder now has 11 goals on the year after his two tallies. The first one broke the ice in the 22nd minute with a hard shot that deflected into the left side of the net. The six goals in the second half was started off by Harder, who one-timed a pass from Sarfert in the 53rd minute for a 4-0 lead.
With nine goals on the day, one that stood out was the second one. Giovanni Pezzi scored on an impressive bicycle kick in the 25th minute to make the score 2-0. Genildo Postimo picked up his first of two assists, both of which came on corner kicks taken by him.
Lima scored his first goal at the 41:28 mark to set the 3-0 score at the half.
Other goals in the second half had Postimo finding Baptiste Ferrand on the far post for another corner-kick goal. Point Park led, 9-1, in corners.
Sarfert scored off a pass from Alexis Lamontagne for a 6-0 lead. The lead grew more with three goals in the final 20 minutes -- Lima put in a rebound after a shot by Pezzi, Facundo Nunez powered a shot past the Pomeroys' goalkeeper and Sarfert added his second on a late run.
Point Park earned another shutout, the fourth one of the year. All of those have come during the current unbeaten streak of six games. The Pioneers have yielded just four goals during that stretch.
The Pioneers play two RSC games next week with a road date at Ohio Christian on Oct. 12 followed by a home matchup versus Shawnee State (Ohio) under the lights at Highmark Stadium on Oct. 14 (8:30 p.m.).
