Point Park men's soccer improves to 2-0 RSC with win over Oakland City (Ind.)

Box Score

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University men's soccer completed a 2-0 home weekend to start the River States Conference schedule. That's after a 3-2 victory over Oakland City (Ind.) on Saturday at Highmark Stadium.

The Pioneers (5-2-2, 2-0 RSC) built a 2-0 lead at the half to take control and extended their unbeaten streak to four games. Point Park held off the Mighty Oaks (3-5, 1-1 RSC), who got within a goal twice in the second half.

Genildo Postimo and Jaume Genovard each had a goal and an assist to power the Pioneers to victory. Point Park goalkeeper Eduard Garcia earned the win with eight saves on the day.

Postimo, who has eight points in his four games played so far, opened the scoring with a goal in the 28th minute. Genovard provided the assist to start his three-point day.

Philipp Harder put the Pioneers up by two with his tally in the 43rd minute. It was his eighth goal in nine games this season as he headed in a perfect cross from Nils Benning from the right side.

Oakland City made it 2-1 early in the second half when Pablo Herrero found the back of the next at the 48:21 mark.

Point Park was up to the task of protecting that slim lead, which was needed all the way until the 81st minute. That's when Genovard gave the Pioneers breathing room after being setup by Postimo. Genovard's eventual game-winning goal gives him five goals and 14 points.

Ian Cowle pulled Oakland City within 3-2 with his goal, which came with only 1:12 remaining. The Pioneers ran out the clock to get the win.

Oakland City held a 15-11 advantage in shots. The Mighty Oaks got 11 of their shots on goal compared to six for Point Park. Saturday's game was a rematch of an RSC Championship quarterfinals game won by Oakland City last year in Pittsburgh.

The Pioneers will be off until next Saturday, Sept. 30 when they go to IU East for their first RSC road game.
