Point Park Falls In Exhibition at Pitt

PITTSBURGH – Point Park fell to the University of Pittsburgh, 93-62, on Tuesday evening in an exhibition game at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh.

The game had a single-digit margin in the first half with Pitt taking a 50-42 lead into the locker room.

In the first 20 minutes, Point Park shot 48.6 percent from the floor (18-37) and made five 3-pointers. Kaden Warner finished the first half with 11 points and five assists, shooting 5-of-17 from the floor during the half. Freshman Aiden Miller came off the bench to chip in eight points, while Jags Jhawar and Aidan Anderson dropped in six apiece in the first half.

In the second half, Pitt went on a 12-4 scoring run over the first 5:04 of the frame to open up a 64-46 advantage. With the Panthers still clinging to a 68-52 advantage with 11:47 remaining, Pitt would score 15 of the next 17 points to move ahead by an 85-54 margin with under five to play.

For the game, Pitt shot 48.6 percent (34-70) from the floor, compared to 39.1 percent (27-69) for the Pioneers. However, most of the damage came in the second half as the Panthers shot 50 percent (17-34) from the floor while limiting Point Park to just 28 percent (9-32).

Pitt also held a 46-34 rebounding advantage and scored 29 fast-break point off of 18 Point Park turnovers in the win.

Warner finished the evening with 13 points and five assists in 23 minutes, while Miller chipped in 10 points. Nathaniel Van recorded eight points and six rebounds for the Pioneers.

Ishmael Leggett finished the evening with 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists for Pitt, while Jaland Lowe added 22 points and four steals. Cameron Corhen also reached double-figures with 14 points and 11 rebounds to record a double-double.

Point Park will open the 2024-25 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 9 against Manfield University. The game will be played at Millersville University on Day 1 of the Ron Wilson Classic.
