Point Park Comes Up Short Against West Virginia Wesleyan

PITTSBURGH, Pa.—The Point Park women's basketball team fell 62-48 to West Virginia Wesleyan in a mid-week MEC matchup in Pittsburgh. The Pioneers now sit at 2-7 overall and 1-4 in MEC while the Bobcats remain on top in MEC Women's Basketball with an overall record of 8-1 and 5-0 in MEC play.
 
Point Park as a team collectively shot 37.3 percent from the floor (19-51) with three Pioneers scoring double-digits.  Emma Pavelek led Point Park with 12 points and went 3 for 5 from beyond the arc. Ari Bleda had 11 points in the effort and contributed with five rebounds. Aichata Ballo rounded out the top scorers with 10 points and eight rebounds.
 
Point Park had the advantage on the glass out rebounding West Virginia Wesleyan 36-33 with Ballo and Coral Homs, who had five rebounds, leading the Pioneers.
 
For West Virginia Wesleyan the Bobcats shot 40.7 percent from the floor making 24 field goals. They also shot 81.8 percent (9-11) from the free throw line. Emma Witt nearly had a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds to lead the effort for the Bobcats. West Virginia had 13 steals with Shelby Genes having four.
 
Point Park continues Mountain East Conference play this weekend when they travel to Elkins, West Virginia to face off with Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon. The Senators currently sit at 0-8 overall and 0-4 conference. The Senators last MEC matchup saw them fall to West Liberty University 93-60.
