FROSTBURG, Md. – The women's basketball team picked up a 78-70 win over Frostburg State University as Point Park had four players score double-digits on the night to get the Mountain East Conference win over the Bobcats.
Point Park knocked down 40.3 percent of their shots on the night which included eight threes on the night. The Pioneers nearly knocked down 50 percent of their shots in the 2
nd quarter to have a 45-32 lead going into the half.
Alexis Giles had another big night for Point Park with 19 points to lead the Pioneers. Giles shot 42.9 percent from the floor and has now recorded 30 three points on the season.
Aichata Ballo had a double-double, pulling down 11 boards along with 14 points.
Ari Bleda (13) and
Emma Pavelek (12) were the other Point Park players to reach double-digits.
Camille Fultz,
Coral Homs, and
Chloe Williams also record six, five, and nine points respectively.
The Pioneers picked up 12 steals in the game with
Ari Bleda picking up four to lead the defensive effort. Bleda has recorded a team leading 31 steals on the season and is ranked eighth overall in the Mountain East Conference.
For the Bobcats, MEC Scoring Leader Emilee Weakley continued her strong season as she dropped a game leading 29 points, knocking down six threes in the contest. As a team Frostburg knocked down 15 threes as a team compared to the Pioneers eight.
With the win Point Park moves to 4-11 overall and 3-7 in Mountain East Conference play while Frostburg falls to 10-6 overall and 5-4 in MEC play. Point Park will return back to Pittsburgh to face off with West Liberty on Wednesday January 22. This will be the second meeting between the teams as West Liberty took the last matchup 75-66 back on November 23
rd. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at CCAC-Allegheny.
