Pioneers Fall in Matchup Against University of Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – In their first matchup of 2025 the Point Park women's basketball team suffered an 80-72 loss against the University of Charleston on Wednesday night to fall to 2-10 overall and 1-6 in MEC play.
 
As a team the Pioneers shot 37 percent from the floor led by Alexis Giles who had 17 points to led Point Park offensively. Giles went 6 for 13 from the floor and 4 for 8 from behind the arc. Giles currently leads the Pioneers with 21 threes on the year.
 
Charleston narrowly out rebounded Point Park as the Golden Eagles brought down 44 boards while the Pioneers grabbed 42 from the glass, which included 18 offensive boards. Senior Ari Bleda had a double-double grabbing a team-leading 11 rebounds to go along with 15 points.
 
Point Park picked up 20 points off the bench which was highlighted by sophomore Chloe Williams season high 14 points which came on 5 for 6 shooting from the floor. Kayla Walter rounded out the bench points as Walter had a season high six points on two made threes.
 
Charleston's Jamia Nesmith led all scorers with an impressive 27 points performance. As a team the Golden Eagles shot 42.6 percent on the floor with 26 made field goals. Charleston also shot 75.9 percent from the free throw line as the Golden Eagles hit 22 for 29 from the charity stripe. Charleston moves to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in MEC play.
 
Point Park will return home to Pittsburgh to face-off against West Virginia State at CCAC-Allegheny on Saturday, January 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
