CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Point Park women's soccer team dropped a road matchup against Charleston, 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the 14
th minute as Linsey Hackney (4) found the back of the net for Charleston before Point Park's
Maria Gomez tied the match in the 26
th minute with her third goal of the season.
Charleston made it 4-1 with a goal in the 35
th minute by Li-Lou Debaecker (7), Anna Gregor (2) in the 47
th minute, and Ciara Casamento (1) in the 55
th minute.
The Pioneers cut down the lead in the 71
st minute as
Rebecca Pihlgren scored her ninth goal of the season off an assist from
Jurnee Durrett-Finney to make it 4-2 before Charleston put one more on the board in the 84
th minute on another Hackney goal to give Charleston a 5-2 win.
Statistically, the Pioneers held a slim 16-15 advantage in shots while both teams had two corner kicks apiece.
In goal,
Riley Jones got the start for the Pioneers going all 90 minutes while making five saves and allowing five goals. Charleston's keeper Ines Degli Esposti allowed two goals while recording 10 saves.
With the loss the Pioneers fall to 6-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in conference play while Charleston moves to 6-5-2 overall and 5-3-2 in MEC play. Point Park will return back to Pittsburgh to host Fairmont State on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday's matchup will be a Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
