PITTSBURGH- The Pioneers dropped a MEC women's soccer matchup 2-0 to Fairmont State on Wednesday night at Highmark Stadium.
Fairmont State's Montserrat Diaz continued her strong season with her ninth goal of the season in the 26
th minute to give the Fighting Falcons a 1-0 lead.
The Falcon's extended their lead in the 78
th minute as Valentina Gianinetto found the bottom right corner of the net off an assist from Braylyn Spark to put Fairmont State up 2-0. Fairmont State was able to hold off the Pioneers for the rest of the match to secure the shutout.
Point Park held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks while the Falcons held a 19-6 advantage in shots. For the Pioneers,Â
Sterre Kuijper recorded three shots with two coming on goal to lead Point Park.
In goal,
Frederieke Rijlaarsdam recorded six saves while allowing two goals for Point Park while Fairmont State's Olivia Johnson got the shutout while recording two saves.
With the loss Point Park falls to 6-6-2 overall and 5-5-1 in conference while Fairmont State advances to 10-2-2 overall and 8-1-2 in the MEC.
The Pioneers will head back on the road this weekend as Point Park will travel to Frostburg State to take on the Bobcats on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Bobcat Stadium.
