PITTSBURGH- The Point Park women's soccer team dropped a Mountain East Conference matchup against West Virginia State 4-1 at Highmark Stadium on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh.
West Virginia State's Maria Alejandra Hernandez Diaz put the Yellow Jackets on the board first in the 24
th minute off a double assist from Laura Pouedras and Alexia Garcia Bru.
Two minutes later, Point Park answered back in the 26
th minute as captain
Sterre Kuijper converted a penalty kick to tie the match at 1-1.
The rest of the match was all West Virginia State as the Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard three more times, including an own goal by Point Park in the 61
st minute.
West Virginia Wesleyan outshot Point Park 20-9 in the matchup. Point Park had four shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets also held a slight 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
In goal,
Frederieke Rijlaarsdam recorded four saves while allowing four goals in 90 minutes of action.
Point Park now sits at 5-4-1 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Point Park returns to the road as the Pioneers travel to Buckhannon, West Virginia to take on West Virginia Wesleyan.
