PITTSBURGH – After winning the first set 25-23, Point Park dropped a four-set match to Mountain East Conference North Division leading Wheeling University on Friday evening at the Student Center. The Cardinals won the final three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-12 and 25-18.
Wheeling committed eight errors in the first set, before limiting their miscues to just 12 over the final three sets. The Cardinals also held statistical advantages in points (64-49), kills (51-39), blocks (9-6), assists (47-36) and digs (72-66). Both teams had four aces on the evening.
Nicole Reasbeck led the Pioneers with 11 kills, 10 digs and three blocks in the match.
Avery Budrys Rini chipped in nine kills and a team-high 16 digs, while
Alex Koontz finished with seven kills and 11 digs.
Marianna Oyola-Rivera finished the match with 30 assists and three aces from her setter position.
Savannah Kitchen had three blocks.
Wheeling was led by Camryn Matus with 13 kills, four blocks and two aces. Katie Wilking also chipped in 12 kills and four blocks. Megan Platt had 26 digs in the win.
Point Park will open the final week of the regular season with a road match against Fairmont State on Tuesday evening. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
