Point Park Hosts West Liberty in MEC Quarterfinals on Sunday

PITTSBURGH – Point Park will host the first-ever Mountain East Conference Tournament game in school history on Sunday afternoon as the third-seeded Pioneers welcome sixth-seeded West Liberty to Highmark Stadium for a quarterfinal matchup. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.

TICKETS/PARKING: Admission to Sunday's tournament game is free for all spectators. Parking at Highmark Stadium costs $5 per vehicle.
 
Point Park enters the game with a record of 8-8-2 on the season, including 7-5-2 in league play. West Liberty ended the regular season with a record of 6-8-4 overall and 4-7-3 in league play.
 
Point Park is 5-2-1 at Highmark Stadium this season.
 
Storylines
  • Point Park took both regular season matchups against West Liberty this fall. On Sept. 24 on the hilltop, Point Park picked up the 2-0 win over the 'Toppers. Joao Weber and Azavier Coppin scored the Point Park goals in the win.
  • On Oct. 8 at Highmark Stadium, Point Park scored on a PK in the 78th minute to pick up a 2-1 victory. Fridolin Gefrorer and Guy Lehrer scored the Point Park goals in the win.
  • Point Park had three student-athletes earn All-MEC recognition on Friday afternoon, including first team selection Fridolin Gefrorer. Midfielders Giovanni Pezzi and Guy Lehrer were each named to the All-MEC second team.
  • Gefrorer, a graduate forward from Berlin, Germany, led the Pioneers in goals (5) and points (12) this fall. He placed 12 of his 21 shots on-target this season and also finished the year 1-for-1 on penalty kicks. He made 18 starts as a team captain for Point Park this season.
  • Pezzi, a graduate student from Italy, finished the season with three goals and two assists, recording eight points this season. He had one game-winner this season. He played in 14 games while making 12 starts.
  • Lehrer, a junior from Tel Aviv, Israel, found the back of the net twice this season while also recording two assists (six points). Both of his goals were game-winners, and he also went 1-for-1 on PK attempts. Twelve of his 22 shots were on-target this season.
  • Despite being omitted from the All-MEC honors on Friday afternoon, Ido Chalamish ranked second on the team in both goals (4) and points (9) for the Pioneers during the regular season.
  • Lorenzo Grispello and Cheroky Briard also have two goals apiece for the Pioneers this season.
  • The winner of Sunday's quarterfinal matchup will travel to second-seeded Concord for a semifinal matchup on Wednesday evening.
