WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty opened up an early lead and picked up a 77-61 win over Point Park on Saturday afternoon at the ASRC.
West Liberty outscored the Pioneers 27-10 in the opening quarter and took a 45-26 lead into the locker room on Saturday.
In the second half, Point Park chipped away at the lead and pulled to within nine at the 8:49 mark of the fourth quarter (61-52), but West Liberty outscored the Pioneers 16-9 the rest of the way to wrap up the victory.
Both teams shot similar percentages from the floor, with Point Park outshooting West Liberty 43.6%-to-42.9%. However, the Hilltoppers held a 9-2 advantage in 3-point field goals and forced 21 turnovers on the afternoon.
The Pioneers had four double-figure scorers in the game, led by 13 points and five rebounds from
Camille Fultz.
Lucia Hervia chipped in 11 points and five rebounds, while
Fatim Sarr Ndow and
Teshaya Anderson scored 10 points apiece. Sarr Ndow finished two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight boards in the game.
Kamryn Pieper also chipped in six points and six rebounds.
Point Park held a 40-25 rebounding advantage on the afternoon.
West Liberty got a game-high 21 points from Dria Parker. Parker shot 7-of-11 from behind the arc and also pulled down four rebounds. Anna Lucarelli led the Hilltoppers in the post with 12 points and eight boards.
The Pioneers will wrap up their current road swing on Wednesday evening with a matchup at West Virginia Wesleyan. Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.
