WHEELING, W.Va. – Wheeling closed out Point Park with a 32-7 scoring advantage over the final 8:44 of Wednesday's Mountain East Conference matchup at the McDonough Center. With the closing effort, the Cardinals picked up an 82-62 victory over the Pioneers.
Following the setback, Point Park falls to 10-17 overall and 4-16 in MEC play. The Pioneers will be the No. 10 seed in next week's MEC Basketball Tournament at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling. Tournament matchups will be announced on Saturday evening, with the opening round games slated for Wednesday, March 5.
Nazareth Fisher led the Pioneers with 25 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in Wednesday's game.
Nathaniel Van also reached double-figures with 13 points and five rebounds. The Pioneers also got eight points from
Aiden Miller and seven from
Aidan Anderson.
Point Park shot 43 percent (22-51) from the floor on Wednesday, but just 1-of-12 from behind the arc. The Cardinals outrebounded the Pioneers 36-31 on the evening.
Wheeling was led by Sean Ealy with 23 points. Caleb Murray chipped in 16 points.
The Cardinals had a 38-3 advantage in bench points during the game.
Point Park will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at home against Salem University. The senior day game is slated for 4 p.m. at CCAC.
