SALEM, Va. – Charleston used a seven-run fifth inning to get past Point Park, 8-1, in the opening game of the 2025 Mountain East Conference Softball Tournament for both teams on Wednesday at the newly-renovated Moyer Sports Complex in Salem.
Following its setback in the opener, Point Park will now play Concord in an elimination game on Thursday afternoon at the Moyer Sports Complex. The game is slated for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch. With a win over Concord, the Pioneers will advance and play again at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Jaylyn Mullenax (8-9) carried a scoreless game into the fifth inning, allowing just two Charleston hits in the first four innings of play. Mullenax finished the evening with five strikeouts.
In the fifth, though, Charleston broke the tie and took a commanding 7-0 advantage over the Pioneers.
After a leadoff single by Brittny Ogg, Charleston's Reagan West doubled to left center to plate the first run of the game for the Golden Eagles.
After an error to put two runners on for UC, Ella Zucchero and Allison Rubal hit back-to-back RBI singles to put UC in front 3-0. Then, with Zucchero and Rubal on second and third following a double steal, Kyra Gooler hit a three-run home run to left field to make the score 6-0.
The Golden Eagles would bat around the lineup and West would add another RBI later in the inning on a single to make UC's advantage 7-0.

Julia Hill from third with the bases loaded. Hill reached with a leadoff double in the inning for the Pioneers.
UC would get the game to its final score in the bottom of the sixth when Zucchero tripled to right center to score the RBI from third.
MEC Pitcher of the Year Addison Mass improved to 21-4 for UC, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six in the opening-round complete game.
