INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Point Park split the opening day of the Charleston-West Virginia State Regional Crossover on Friday afternoon, finishing the day with its first win of the season, a 3-0 sweep over Roberts Wesleyan University.
The Pioneers dropped a 3-0 match against Shepherd earlier in the day to begin the weekend. Point Park is now 1-5 on the year.
In the win over Roberts Wesleyan,
Nicole Reasbeck led three double-digit attackers with 12 kills in the win for the Pioneers.
Avery Budrys Rini added 11 kills and
Marcella Erichsen finished with 10. The Pioneers had by far their best hitting performance of the season, recording 45 kills and nine errors on 103 total attacks (.350 hitting pct.). Roberts Wesleyan hit .252 in the match.
In other notable statistics, Point Park held an 8-5 advantage in aces and Roberts Wesleyan finished the match with a 5-2 edge in total blocks.
Marianna Oyola-Rivera had a team-high in both assists (32) and digs (12) in the match.
Alex Koontz also chipped in nine digs.
In Point Park's first match of the day, a 3-0 setback against Shepherd, the Pioneers hit -.011 with 23 kills and 24 errors on 91 total attacks. On the other side of the net, Shepherd hit .368 with 41 kills and nine errors.
Reasbeck led the Pioneer attack with eight kills in the match. From her setter position, Oyola-Rivera recorded 14 assists and seven digs. Budrys Rini had a team-high 10 digs against Shepherd.
Emily Ryder and Ada McCoy led Shepherd with 11 and 10 kills apiece.
Point Park wraps up play at West Virginia State on Saturday. The Pioneers face Kentucky Wesleyan at 10 a.m. and East Stroudsburg at 4 p.m.
