BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Point Park women's soccer team got a huge 10-0 shutout win over the Salem Tigers at the Bridge Sports Complex in West Virginia on Wednesday afternoon.
The Pioneers started their big game with three goals in the first half with
Rebecca Pihlgren putting Point Park on the board first in the 9
th minute. In the 21
st minute
Maria Gomez scored off an assist from
Mireya Rojas before Mia Gonalez capped off the first half scoring with a goal in the 23
rd minute.
Point Park remained hot going into the second half as Pihlgren hit the back of the net for the second time only five seconds in. Following Pihlgren's goal, Point Park put up four goals with Austin Burkett (50
th minute),
Isabelle Meier (53
rd minute),
Martina Cardemil (54
th minute), and Sole (54
th minute) putting the Pioneers up 8-0.
Anne Barbosa and
Sterre Kuijper put up the final goals for Point Park with Barbosa's coming in the 68
th minute and Kuijper hitting her third of the season in the 79
th minute.
The Pioneers put up a massive 31 shots with 21 of them coming on goal. Point Park also held a massive 20-0 advantage in corner kicks. Defensively, the Pioneers limited Salem to one shot on the afternoon.
Three different Point Park goalkeepers saw action in the matchup.
Frederieke Rijlaarsdam played the entire first half for the Pioneers before
Riley Jones and
Nicole Kuchinski split time in the second half.
Point Park's 10 goals in the matchup is the second most goals scored in a single game in school history.
With the win, Point Park moves to 2-1-1 overall while Salem falls to 0-3 to start the season. Point Park will head back on the road on Sunday afternoon as the Pioneers travel to West Liberty to take on the Hilltoppers at 3:30 p.m.
