WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Point Park women's soccer team picked up their third straight win, this time defeating Mountain East Conference opponent West Liberty 5-1 at the West Family Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneer offense got started early with
Rebecca Pihlgren scoring 10 seconds into the match off an assist from
Sterre Kuijper to put Point Park on the board quickly.
Maria Gomez extended the lead for the Pioneers in the 7
th minute with an unassisted goal to make it 2-0 before
Martina Cardemil made the lead 3-0 off an assist from
Tatum Lucero to put the Pioneers up 3-0 going into the half.
In the second half, Pihlgren struck again for her fourth goal of the season and second of the match in the 51
st minute off an assist from
Paula Sole. All four of Pihlgrens goals on the season have come in the last two contests for the Pioneers.
Maya Figueroa scored the final goal of the matchup for Point Park in the 61
st minute for her second of the season to make the lead 5-0 before the Hilltoppers found the back of the net in the 86
th minute on a goal by Rylyn Bielinski to help the Hilltoppers avoid a shutout.
The Pioneers have now scored an impressive 17 goals over their last three contests. Statistically the Pioneers held a 16-7 advantage in shots and a 11-2 advantage in corner kicks over the Hilltoppers.
In goal for the Pioneers,
Frederieke Rijlaarsdam picked up her third win of the season moving to 3-1 on the year so far. Rijlaarsdam played all 90 minutes recording three saves in goal.
With the win, Point Park moves to 3-1-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Pioneers will be back in action on Wednesday night as Point Park travels to Fairmont State to take on the Falcons at 7:00 p.m.
