FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Point Park women's soccer team fell 2-1 in a close matchup with the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons in a Wednesday night Mountain East Conference matchup at Duvall-Rosier Field.
Fairmont State got on the board first as Monteserrat Diaz put up her first goal of the night in the 36
th minute off an assist from Dinarte Dayra to put the Falcons up 1-0 before Diaz got her second goal of the match in the 53
rd minute off another assist from Dinarte and Ava Yannucci to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
Point Park escaped the shutout very late in the match as
Sterre Kuijper found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season in the 89
th minute to cut Fairmont's lead down to one before the clock ran out.
The Fairmont State defense limited Point Park to only three shots with two coming on goal while the Fighting Falcons recorded 12 shots on the night. Fairmont State also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Frederieke Rijlaarsadam went all 90 minutes in the net for the Pioneers recording one save in the matchup.
With the loss, Point Park falls to 3-2-1 overall and 2-1 in league play. Point Park's next matchup will be on Saturday for Homecoming as the Pioneers host Frostburg State at Highmark Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 11:00 a.m.
