PITTSBURGH – The Point Park men's and women's teams are traveling up to Lock Haven, Pennsylvania to compete at the 24
th Annual Lock Haven Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at the West Branch Cross Country Course.
Point Park runners will compete in four different races based on qualifying marks. The men will compete in the "Crimson" 8k race which is set for 10:00 a.m. and the "White" 8k race which will kick off at 11:30 a.m. For the women, the Pioneers will race in the "Crimson" 6k race at 10:45 a.m. and the women's "White" 6k at 12:30 p.m.
On the women's side, the Pioneers are coming off a sixth place finish at the RMU Colonial Invitational back on Sept. 12 at the Youthtowne Fields in Clinton, Pa.
Cassondra O'Connor led the Pioneers, finishing in seventh place with a personal best 6k time of 21:21.5. Her top 10 finish at the Division I meet was her second of the season after finishing first at the West Liberty Invitational back in early September.
O'Connor has earned MEC honors twice this year being named MEC Runner of the Week back on Sept. 8 for her first place finish at West Liberty, followed up by being named MEC Co-Runner of the Week on Sept. 15 for her efforts at the RMU Colonial Invitational.
For the men, Point Park finished seventh at the RMU Colonial Invitational.
Luke McKenna led the men's team, finishing 43
rd in the 8k race with a time of 25:34.0.
Looking back at last year's 23
rd Annual Lock Haven Cross Country Invitational, the women finished sixth out of 29 teams led by O'Connor who placed eighth (21:45.4) in the race. For the men, McKenna finished in 17
th place to help pace the Pioneers to a 11
th place finish out of 26 teams. McKenna ran a 25:18.8 in the men's 8k race.
