PITTSBURGH - The Point Park women's soccer team opened the 2025 season with a 2-2 draw against non-conference opponent Florida Southern at Highmark Stadium on Thursday night.
Florida Southern got on the board first in the 30
th minute as the Moccasins were fouled in the penalty box with Rilee Hasegawa converting the penalty shot to put the Moccasins up 1-0.
Point Park answered back four minutes later with a goal of their own as
Maya Figueroa scored her first goal of the season on a
Martina Cardemil corner kick.
Rebecca Pihlgren was also credited with an assist on the play.
The game remained tied going into the second half before Point Park converted a penalty kick of their own as
Sterre Kuijper hit the top corner of the goal to put the Pioneers up 2-1.
In the 68
th minute, Florida Southern tied up the match as Breena Harrigan scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Isabella Payne.
Neither team would score the rest of the game with the match ending in a 2-2 draw.
Nicole Kuchinski went all 90 minutes in goal for the Pioneers picking up six saves in her first start of the season.
Florida Southern outshot the Pioneers 23-5 in the match with the Moccasins recording 11 shots in the first half followed up by 12 in the second. Point Park put up three shots in the first before recording two more in the second half.
Point Park (0-0-1) will return to Highmark Stadium next Wednesday Sept. 10 for a non-conference matchup with PSAC member Edinboro. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
