PITTSBURGH – Fourteenth-ranked West Liberty held off an early second half run to defeat Point Park, 90-72, on Wednesday evening at CCAC.
Trailing 45-30 at the break, Point Park opened the second half on a 16-4 scoring run over the first 3:31 of play, but West Liberty quickly opened its lead back to double-digits with 14-straight points over the next three-minute stretch.
Point Park's early second-half run featured four 3-pointers, two from
Grant Welch and one each from
Jaylen Stewart and
Greg Williams.
In the win, West Liberty shot 49 percent from the floor, including an 8-of-23 mark from behind the arc. West Liberty also went 14-of-17 from the charity stripe.
Point Park shot 39 percent from the floor, despite holding an advantage with 14 3-pointers in the game. The Pioneers didn't attempt a free throw until the six-minute mark of the second half and went 4-of-8 from the line.
The Pioneers had four double-figure scorers, led by 23 points and four assists from
Kaden Warner. Welch added 14 points and five steals.
Aidan Anderson chipped in 13 points and five rebounds, while Williams dropped in 12 points to go with six rebounds.
Stewart had a team-high six assists.
West Liberty had five double-figure scorers in the game, led by Myles Montgomery with 15 points, seven steals and six assists. Dante Spadafora came off the bench to score 12. Jamie Muldowney also finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points to go with 10 rebounds.
Point Park will host Salem in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon. Tip is slated for 4 p.m.
