Point Park Uses 3-Point Shooting to Defeat Salem on Saturday

PITTSBURGH – For the second time this season, Point Park knocked down 17 three-pointers as the Pioneers closed out their homestand with a win Saturday afternoon inside CCAC Allegheny, defeating Salem 101-89.

Grant Welch sparked the shooting display early, opening the contest a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in the first half. Kaden Warner and Greg Williams also connected from deep as the Pioneers built their advantage. Despite drilling 10 three-pointers in the opening half, Point Park carried just an eight-point lead into the break (48-40).

At halftime, head coach Ryan Grandits noted that the Pioneers' defensive energy was "lacking," and his team responded coming out of the locker room. Point Park ramped up its defensive intensity, contested shots, and forced Salem to work for every possession in the second half.

Aidan Anderson led the offensive charge, pouring in 30 points for the second time this season. He added a game-high 11 rebounds to record his third double-double of the year. Anderson shot 11-of-20 from the field, went 2-of-4 from three-point range, and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line.

Welch finished with 22 points, while Williams added 18 and Warner chipped in 16. Warner dished out nine assists and grabbed three steals, while Williams tallied eight assists in the victory.

As a team, the Pioneers shot an impressive 50.7% from the field (37-of-73) and 48.6% from beyond the arc. Point Park went to the free-throw line just 10 times but converted all 10 attempts. The Pioneers had 30 assists on 37 made baskets.

Point Park surpassed the 100-point mark in a game for the first time since Dec. 20, 2024 - a 118-68 win over Penn State Shenango at CCAC.

Salem also shot the ball well, finishing at 46.9% from the field (32-of-69) and 43.8% from three-point range (7-of-16). Zahki Fallen led the Tigers with a game-high 33 points, while Jamari Gamble added 22. Eman Lawal and Xavier Price each scored 12, with Lawal pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.

With the win, Point Park improves to 4-12 on the season, while Salem falls to 6-11.

The Pioneers concluded their three-game homestand and will travel to Davis & Elkins for a key road matchup in conference play on Wednesday, before returning home Friday night to host West Virginia Wesleyan at CCAC-Allegheny. Tip-off for both games is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
