Adjo's Last-Minute Tally Completes Comeback Against West Virginia State

Adjo, Meier score in the second half to give Point Park the win

PITTSBURGH -- Eliya Adjo's goal with 42 seconds remaining capped off a thrilling 2-1 comeback win for Point Park women's soccer over West Virginia State on Wednesday night at F.N.B. Stadium.

Adjo's goal came from a great pass from Ariana Obregon to send her deep in behind the WVSU defense, where she shook her defender before depositing the winning goal into the bottom right corner.

COMEBACK QUEENS

After Maria Alejandra Hernandez Diaz scored for the Yellow Jackets in the 34th minute, Point Park was able to rally in the second half to remain unbeaten in the Steel City.

Rebecca Pihlgren went streaking down the wing in the 67th minute before sending a cross in to Isabelle Meier who buried her first goal of the season to draw Point Park (6-3-1, 6-1-1 MEC) level.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Point Park was edged by West Virginia State (3-3-4, 3-2-3 MEC) 14-10 in the shots department, but the two teams both tallied five shots on goal. Isabelle Meier was one of three Pioneers to post two shots, with Maria Gomez and Rebecca Pihlgren doing the same. Both of Meier's shots were on target, and she led the match in shots on goal.

Sara Paris Filter of WVSU led the game with three total shots.

Nicole Kuchinski, the reigning back-to-back MEC Defensive Player of the Week, led the game with four saves on the evening.

STEEL-CITY STREAK

Point Park has won all five of its games in Pittsburgh to open the season, with the WVSU goal coming as the first goal surrendered at home this season.

The Pioneers' five home wins is the best in a single season since 2023. The last time PPU won six home matches was in 2021. Point Park's run of five straight unbeaten at home is its best since joining the Mountain East Conference and NCAA Division II Athletics in 2024.

UP NEXT

Point Park will visit Shawnee State for the first MEC meeting between the two schools. Opening kick of Sunday's contest is scheduled for noon.
