Pioneers Down Hilltoppers 1-0 on Senior Night

Pihlgren's tally in the 10th minute provides the difference

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park women's soccer picked up a 1-0 victory over West Liberty on Wednesday night at F.N.B. Stadium on Senior Night. Rebecca Pihlgren redirected a corner kick from Julia Rusiecki in the 10th minute to give the Pioneers the lead.

THE WINNING EDGE

Pihlgren's goal - her team-leading fifth of the campaign, came on one of her game-high five shots on goal. She also led the contest with nine total shots. Point Park (10-5-1, 10-3-1 MEC) edged West Liberty (2-12-2, 2-11-1 MEC) 18-15 in total shots. The Pioneers recorded nine shots on goal to only two for the Hilltoppers.

EARLY ATTACK

The Pioneers totaled seven shots in the opening 10 minutes of the match, highlighted by Pihlgren's goal. Point Park registered four attempts on net, requiring three saves of WLU goalkeeper Kaisa Vale and a team save.

Paula Sole recorded three shots over the period, including a great chance on goal off a flick from Maria Gomez that forced an excellent save from Vale.

DOUBLE DIGITS

Goalkeeper Nicole Kuchinski extended her MEC lead in shutouts on Wednesday with her 10th clean sheet of the season. Kuchinski made two saves in the victory.

The Pioneers have only allowed two goals at home all season.
