PITTSBURGH – Point Park will be looking for its fifth-straight win on Sunday afternoon with a 1 p.m. matchup against the University of Charleston. The Pioneers are coming off back-to-back 2-0 wins over Shawnee State and West Virginia Wesleyan.
The Pioneers are currently in second place in the MEC North standings with 25 points. Point Park is 8-3-1 overall and 8-1-1 in league play this season. Fairmont State is currently in first place in the north with 26 points, while Frostburg State trails Point Park by two points in the standings with 23.
Charleston is currently in third place in the south with 15 points (4-5-3, 4-3-3 MEC). The Golden Eagles are 1-1-1 in their last three matches, dropping a 2-0 final to nationally-ranked Fairmont State in their last outing.
REBECCA LEADING THE OFFENSE
Point Park sophomore
Rebecca Pihlgren currently leads the team in goals (4), assists (3), points (11) and shots (32). She has two game-winning goals and 16 of her 32 shots have been on-target.
Her game-winners came against Wheeling (Sept. 6) and Frostburg State (Sept. 20).
Pihlgren has five points in the last three games, recording assists against West Virginia State (9/30) and Shawnee State (10/4). She passed out an assist in the first half against West Virginia Wesleyan (10/7), before adding a goal in the second half.
Point Park has scored two goals in each of the last three games, leading to a trio of wins. In Wednesday's 2-0 win over Wesleyan,
Maya Figueroa netted a goal in the 19
th minute, before Pihlgren provided an insurance goal in the 48
th minute.
In Sunday's win over Shawnee State,
Meea Irwin scored her first career goal in the 32
nd minute, while
Maria Gomez added to the lead in the 80
th minute.
In Sept. 30th's 2-1 win over West Virginia State, Point Park erased a 1-0 deficit with second-half goals by
Isabelle Meier (67
th) and
Eliya Adjo (90
th).
LOCKDOWN DEFENSE
The Pioneer defense has allowed just five goals on the season while recording eight shutouts in 12 games.
In her 11 starts, goalkeeper
Nicole Kuchinski has allowed just three goals while recording 47 saves. She has been credited with each of Point Park's eight shutouts this season and has a .940 saves percentage.
Point Park has allowed the fewest goals (5) in the league this season, followed closely by Frostburg State (6) and Fairmont State (7).
Kuchinski leads the league in goals against average (0.27), saves percentage (.940) and shutouts (8).
