CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Point Park dropped a heartbreaking 86-82 final at the University of Charleston on Saturday night at the Wehrle Innovation Center in Charleston.
In a game that featured six ties and 11 lead changes, Point Park shot 57.1 percent from the floor and 12-of-20 from three in the opening half to take a 47-42 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Point Park's shooting cooled and Charleston erased the deficit by shooting 13-of-27 (48.1%) in the final 20 minutes of play.
Point Park shot just 40 percent (10-25) in the second half, including only 3-of-9 from behind the arc.
Greg Williams led the Point Park offense on Saturday with 20 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-7 from three.
Kaden Warner chipped in 18 points and a team-high seven rebounds. The Pioneers also got 17 points from
Rob Keys off the bench, and
Grant Welch chipped in 13 after shooting 4-of-7 from deep.
Aidan Anderson just missed double figures with nine points.
Thomas Hailey scored a team-high 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead UC. Braden Chapman added 15 points.
The teams combined for 31 three-pointers in the game, with UC holding a 16-15 edge in the category. Both teams also shot well from the charity stripe, with Point Park connecting on 15-of-19 (78.9%) shots, while UC was 14-of-18 (77.8%) from the line.
Point Park returns home to host Fairmont State on Wednesday night. Tip is slated for 7:30 p.m. at CCAC.
