Point Park Drops Doubleheader to D'Youville

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. – Point Park dropped its home opening doubleheader to D'Youville (4-1 and 11-8) on Saturday afternoon at West Mifflin Area High School just outside of Pittsburgh.

GAME 1
Pitching proved to be the difference in Game 1 as the Pioneers were limited to just one hit.

D'Youville struck first in the second inning when Sophia Arno singled up the middle, scoring Isabella Mancino to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Three batters later, Danielle Fenlong drew a walk that brought home Frankie Morris, extending the lead to 2-0.

Point Park answered in the bottom half of the inning. Gianna Welsh launched the Pioneers' first home run of the 2026 season to left center, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The Saints added insurance later in the game. Fenlong singled through the left side to score Morris, and the next batter, Summer Clark, doubled to left field to plate Arno, pushing the final score to 4-1.

Both pitchers went the distance. Clark earned the win to improve to 3-0, striking out five. Julia Johnson took the loss, falling to 0-2, while also recording five strikeouts.

GAME 2
D'Youville jumped out early once again, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Clark grounded out to shortstop, allowing Shannon Howes to score, and Fenlong later stole home to give the Saints a 2-0 lead after a half inning.

Point Park quickly responded. Mia Arndt led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run to left field, cutting the deficit to one. Jana Hess followed with a two-run single to left, scoring Shania Cope and Gianna Welsh to give the Pioneers a 3-2 lead after one inning.

From there, the Saints scored in every inning except the fifth and seventh. In the second, Fenlong singled through the right side to score Mancino and tie the game at 3-3.

D'Youville broke things open in the third. Annie Jorgenson scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Hailee Jenkins, and Mancino doubled down the left-field line to bring home Jorja Sandiland.

Leading 5-3, the Saints extended their lead in the fourth. Clark singled up the middle to score Howes. Later in the inning, Jenkins delivered an RBI double that scored Sandiland and Clark, stretching the advantage to 8-3.

Point Park refused to go away in the fifth. With the bases loaded, Cam Mann singled to left, scoring Arndt and Corrine Wright to cut the deficit to three at 8-5. Hess followed with a double into the right-center gap, plating Cope and Mann to make it a one-run game. With two outs, Gia Labrie tied the game with a single to right field, scoring Hess from second.

However, the tie was short-lived with D'Youville's Mikayla Hussar singling up the middle, to score Taylor Stroncisk and Mancino in the top of the sixth. The Saints added an insurance run on a PPU error to make the final score 11-8.

Emma Henry (0-1) was charged with the loss in her first appearance in the circle. She tossed two innings and struck out two.

With the sweep, the Saints improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 0-4.
