PITTSBURGH – Point Park University Vice President of Athletics
Scott Swain has announced the hiring of Tom Pakulski as the new head coach of the Pioneer men's and women's golf programs. Pakulski adds to his duties at Point Park as he currently serves as an assistant on Ryan Grandits' men's basketball staff at PPU.
"We are so excited to have Tom take on this new role," said Swain. "His positive energy and passion for the sport showed the search committee that he is the right person to lead Pioneer Golf. Our student-athletes will enjoy working with him on many levels."
Pakulski was a standout golf student-athlete at nearby Fairview High School, where he qualified for the Pennsylvania State Championship in golf in 2013 and 2014. He was a Western Pennsylvania golf finalist both seasons. He was later recruited to play golf at the collegiate level but decided to pursue other opportunities in coaching.
Pakulski still plays yearly in the GGC hosted in Buffalo, New York, where he holds a career 17-3 match record across five seasons. He's won three GGC championships and won the Most Valuable Golfer award in 2021.
"I am incredibly honored and excited to take on this new opportunity at Point Park University," said Pakulski. "I would like to thank
Scott Swain and the entire athletics administration for putting the trust in me to take over this program. I look forward to building relationships with our student athletes, while creating a competitive environment and a winning culture."
In addition to his current role at PPU, Pakulski has served as assistant golf coach at Fairview High School since fall 2024. At Fairview, he's coached two individual state championship qualifiers, including a second-place finisher in 2024. The program qualified as a team in 2025 and finished fourth in the state.
His other professional experiences include West Virginia University Men's Basketball Manager under Bob Huggins from 2016-2019, Westwood Racquet Club general manager from 2013-2025, and Fairview High School Boys' Basketball assistant from 2021-2025.
Pakulski earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management from West Virginia University in 2019.
