Wesney Enters Top 5 Twice as Pioneers Split Squad

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park track & field competed at Carnegie Mellon and West Liberty on Friday to open a split-squad weekend. Gabriella Wesney posted two top-five marks on the day, competing at CMU.

 

CMU RESULTS

Wesney moved into third in program history in the shot put, with her distance of 11.49 meters. Wesney was previously in fourth place with a mark of 11.38 meters.She also re-upped her fifth-best mark in the hammer throw, recording a toss of 35.05 meters. 

 

Jonah Schneider moved from fourth to third place in the shot put with his toss of 13.87 meters. Schneider's previous best was 12.94 meters. Ben Williams took the fifth slot in program history in the shot put. Williams notched a distance of 13.19 meters. 

 

Aike Van der Lei re-upped his fourth-best 5,000m time in Pioneer history on Friday. Van der Lei achieved a time of 15:17.47 - 17 seconds better than his previous best.

 

Alexis Heller continued her rookie campaign with a ninth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 11.67 meters. Heller holds the program record at 11.79 meters 

 

Chase Bowen finished fourth in the 1,500m. Bowen finished the event in 3:59.48, a second shy of his third-best time in program history.

 

Lotte Zethof finished eighth in the 3,000m steeplechase. Zethof's time of 11:41.46 is just short of her program-record time of 11:37.68.

 

Point Park found success in the 1,500m with Jana Schmid placing sixth thanks to her 4:45.15 time. Schmid was a second shy of her fourth-best time in Point Park history. Cassondra O'Connor finished 13th in the event and Anna Babinyecz - who holds Point Park's fifth-best time - finished 17th.

 

WEST LIBERTY RESULTS    

Miriam Klaunig sits in second place in the heptathlon after day one. Klaunig's current score is 2,267. She placed third in all four events on Friday: the 100m hurdles (16.84 seconds), high jump (1.41 meters), shot put (9.31 meters) and 200m (27.82).

 

Trey Jones ranks third in the decathlon after the opening day with his total of 2,751. Jones took first place in the high jump (1.79 meters) and finished second in the long jump (5.93 meters) and shot put (10.37 meters). 

 

Andrew Hartung has scored 2,627 in the decathlon, good for fourth place after day one. Hartung won the 400m (52.86) and finished fourth in the long jump (5.60m). 

 

Point Park saw three top-15 finishes in the javelin. Cyeanna Evelyn finished sixth, Emmerson Goeden placed 12th and Milan Beauchamp took 14th.

The Pioneers will close out the CMU Invitational and the Tim Weaver Invitational on Saturday.
