PITTSBURGH – Charleston swept Saturday's Mountain East Conference doubleheader, defeating Point Park by scores of 8-2 and 6-0.
Offensively,
Cam Mann hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning of game one, while
Shania Cope hit a solo home run to right center in the fourth for the Pioneers.
Cope finished the game with two hits, while
Jana Hess and Mann added one apiece.
Charleston ace Addison Mass improved to 21-3 on the year with a complete game win in game one. She allowed just one earned run on four hits while striking out seven batters.
The Golden Eagles had 14 hits in the game, including a two-run home run by Mianna Oglesby and doubles by Bianca Polistina and Kayla Moran.
In game two, Point Park held an 8-7 advantage in hits, but couldn't send a runner over the plate in the 6-0 loss. Seven different Pioneers recorded hits in the game, including two hits from Hess.
Charleston's Laila Varney (3-3) pitched the complete game shutout, finishing with five strikeouts while walking just one. Point Park left nine runners on base in game two.
Point Park will host West Virginia State on senior day tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Fairhaven Park. Prior to the game, seniors
Kaylee Fabiano and
Gianna Welsh will be honored.
