John Coakley

John Coakley joined the Point Park University men's basketball staff in April 2022. He was hired by new head coach Kevin Reynolds. Coakley enters his second second with the Pioneers in 2023-24. 

Since arriving on campus with the new staff, Coakley has been an intergral part of a huge turnaround for Point Park men's basketball. Coakley assists in all aspects of the program helping the Pioneers to a 23-7 record in 2022-23, an improvement of 13 wins from the year before. 

Coakley comes to Point Park from his alma mater, Huston-Tillotson University, a NAIA institution that competes in the Red River Athletic Conference, where he was the top assistant.

Prior to Huston-Tillotson, Coakley was a graduate assistant for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, an NCAA Division I school that competes in the Southland Conference. There he worked under head coach Willis Wilson and with Reynolds on the same staff.

During his time at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi he was responsible for video breakdown such as live coding all games and practices through Sportscode Elite, video exchange through Synergy, maintaining a video library of drills, plays and recruits, assisting the coaching staff with pre- and post-practice film sessions, assisting in player development, monitoring players’ academics and overseeing all team managers. 

Coakley graduated with his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Huston-Tillotson University in 2019. He earned his Master’s degree in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi in August 2021.
