Point Park University Vice President of Athletics
Scott Swain announced the hiring of Nicole Bajuszik as the next head coach of the Pioneer volleyball program, he announced on Monday afternoon.
"From the beginning of our search, Nicole exhibited the positive, enthusiastic attitude and work ethic we are building in Pioneer Athletics," said Swain. "She resonated with the search committee and other coaches very well. I am very excited for the future of PPU volleyball under her leadership."
Bajuszik comes to Point Park after spending 14 seasons at La Roche University, a Division III program nearby in Pittsburgh.
"After meeting Nicole, what stood out most was her energy, passion and drive regarding the sport of volleyball," said Point Park Assistant Athletics Director and SWA
Laura Schaefer. "Nicole brings extensive experience to our program and university, and we are excited to see what is in store for Pioneer volleyball."
During her successful tenure at La Roche, the Redhawks made 12-consecutive AMCC Tournament appearances, including the programs first postseason appearance and victory in 2014 and an appearance in the championship match in 2017. Her program also made six trips to the conference semifinals. Her tenure was highlighted by win totals of 18 in 2014 and 16 wins in 2015, 2018 and 2023.
"One of my favorite quotes is – 'everything you ever wanted is one step outside your comfort zone,' said Bajuszik. "I am beyond thrilled to join the Pioneer family and appreciate
Scott Swain's trust in me to lead this program. I'm looking forward to meeting and working with the talented student-athletes in the program."
Bajuszik coached 23 all-conference performers at La Roche, including seven first-team selections. She also coached several players that went on to eclipse 1,000 kills, assists and digs during their careers at La Roche.
She was also recognized as the AMCC Coach of the Year in 2014.
Bajuszik is a 2006 graduate of La Roche College, where she enjoyed a successful run as one of the conference's leading setters, earning multiple selections to AMCC All-Conference teams. Prior to La Roche, she began her collegiate playing career at Butler County Community College, where she served as team captain and helped the team to a top-5 ranking in the nation. She earned several all-star and all-region honors during her playing career.
She was also instrumental in several fundraising efforts for her program at La Roche, including the annual golf outing, summer camps and clinics, and more. Those efforts allowed her teams to compete internationally with tournaments in Barbados, St. Croix and Puerto Rico.
