RESULTS
ERIE, Pa. -- Point Park University men's cross country competed Saturday at the PSU-Behrend Invitational. The Pioneers registered a third-place finish of out of 11 teams and had three individual runners place in the top 10.
It was a three-team race in the team standings. Host PSU-Behrend came out on top with 48 points, and Case Western Reserve took second with 53 points. Point Park was close behind with 59 points before a big gap with Houghton in fourth place at 109.
Point Park scored well due to placing six runners in the top 25 as medal winners. There were 98 total runners in the race. Conditions were very slow with a monsoon hitting the course at the start of the day.
Freshman Dannys Marrero, from Tampa, Fla., placed fourth overall and third in the college standings with a time of 28:37 to lead Point Park. Dylan Buffington of PSU-Behrend won the individual title at 27:13
Also placing in the top 10 for Point Park was sophomore Sean Hilverding in fifth place at 28:54 and junior Chris Hunt in sixth place at 28:56. There were seven runners in the 8K-race who broke the 29-minute mark, and Point Park had three of them.
Three more Pioneers placed in the top 25 with freshman Xavier Stephens (22nd, 29:55), sophomore Desmond Marrow (23rd, 29:58) and freshman Nathaniel Hersch (25th, 30:15). Sophomore Bradley Calleja was 36th at 31:17 to round out Point Park's top seven finishers.
It was Point Park's second race of the season. The Pioneers had been off since the season opener Sept. 2 at Walsh. Point Park gets back into action next Saturday at the Lock Haven Invitational. Follow the Pioneers on social media @PointParkSports hashtag #PPUXC.
