Point Park men's golf in 8th place after 18 holes at RSC tourney

UNION, Ky. -- Point Park University men's golf shot a team score of 325 over the first 18 holes of the River States Conference Men's Golf Championship on Monday, and the Pioneers were in eighth place of 12 teams after the completion of the first round.

A total of 27 holes were played on Monday, and although all 12 teams are already halfway through their second round, the second-round scores will not be officially posted until the completion of the back nine. The 54-hole tournament concludes on Tuesday starting at 8:30 a.m. with 27 more holes, including the final round of 18 holes.

With 27 holes left to play and 36 holes yet to post on the leaderboard, there is plenty of moving still that came be done before the tournament is through. The Pioneers were just five shots outside the top 5 and 11 shots off the team lead after 18 holes. Midway (Ky.) University shot a first-round 314 to lead by two shots over WVU Tech (316).

Ohio Christian University (317) and IU East (319) were next followed by Asbury (Ky.) University and IU Kokomo tied for fifth at 320. Brescia shot 321 with Point Park after that in eighth place.

Senior Max Kaminsky and junior Gino DiPardo each shot 8-over 79 to lead the Pioneers in the first round. They each carded a birdie and 10 pars and were tied for 12th individually. Junior Rafael Perez also collected 10 pars on his way to 82, and a triple bogey is what kept him from breaking 80.

Point Park's team score was rounded out by Matt D'Amico with an 85. Nick Finoli shot 89, and Justin Guzik competed as an individual with an 87. For the complete leaderboard after 18 holes, click the results link above for tournament scoring on GolfStat.
