Point Park men's golf takes 10th at CMU, Basiletti fires 66 on Sunday

APOLLO, Pa. -- Led by Gage Basiletti's 66, Point Park University men's golf shot a team score of 293 on Sunday at the final round of the Carnegie Mellon University Fall Shootout. It was the Pioneers' best round so far in the young fall season, but on a day with lots of low scores around the tournament, they managed to move up one spot from Saturday and finish in 10th place of 14 teams.

Basiletti tied for 11th place after his 4-under performance on Sunday. He opened up with a 76 in the first round but improved by 10 strokes to card a score of 2-over 142 for the tournament. The 66 tied for the low round of the tournament, which was also achieved by medalist Matthew Del Rosso (66-69) from Allegheny. He won by one shot over Washington & Jefferson's Benjamin Peticca (69-67).

Washington & Jefferson had four players in the 60s on Sunday to take the team title. The Presidents had a team score of 9-under 271 in the final round to beat Thomas More by three shots. Thomas More had three players shoot in the 60s on Saturday.

Point Park's tournament scorecard of 307-293 had Justin Guzik shoot 5-over 145 over the 36 holes. He had a team-best 72 in the first round and followed that up with a 73 on Sunday to place in a tie for 25th.

Rafael Perez turned in two rounds in the 70s and ended up at 155 with scorecards of 78 and 77. Matt D'Amico (81-77) and Alex Smith (83-80) rounded out the team scoring for the weekend. Gino DiPardo (75-78) competed as an individual.
