Box Score SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- Two goals less than a minute apart in the second half lifted Huntington (Ind.) University over Point Park University, 3-1, to begin the Lawrence Tech (Mich.) University Blue Devil Classic on Friday afternoon.
Huntington (2-1) broke a 1-1, halftime tie with goals in the 57th and 58th minutes to provide the difference. Point Park (2-1) erased a 1-0 deficit when sophomore forward Mitchell Roell scored his first goal of the year in the 19th minute.
Point Park held things at 1-1 at the half despite being out-shot 10-2 at that point. Huntington mounted 10 more shots in the second half and found the goals to win. Ty Sproat broke the tie with a strike at the 56:08 mark. And 56 seconds later, Jake Erhlandson gave the Foresters a two-goal cushion.
The Pioneers ended up with six total shots with three on goal. There were not many corner kicks with Huntington holding a slight edge of 3-2. Point Park goalkeeper Ryan Daniels faced 14 shots and made 11 saves.
Point Park will play the consolation game Saturday at 2 p.m. versus Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) (0-5). The Crimson Wave lost to host Lawrence Tech (2-1-1) by a score of 7-2 on Friday. Huntington plays Lawrence Tech in the championship at 5 p.m.
