FLORENCE, Ind. -- Point Park University men's golf is tied for third place of 11 teams after 36 holes at the River States Conference Men's Golf Championship. The first two rounds were played Monday, April 15 at Belterra Golf Course in Florence, Ind.
Gage Basiletti is three shots off the lead and in fourth place individually at 6-over with rounds of 75 and 73 on Monday. Matt D'Amico is tied for fifth and four shots behind the leader after carding 77 and 72. He is 7-over for the tournament.
Brescia (Ky.) leads the team standings by nine strokes after putting together two strong rounds. The Bearcats led by six after an opening 306 and pushed the lead even more with a tourney-best 300 in round two. Midway (Ky.) is in second place with rounds of 312-303, which is three in front of Point Park and Asbury (Ky.) (315-303) in the tie for third.
Point Park opened up with a score of 313 in the first round. The Pioneers then lowered their score to 303 for round two to move up one spot and into a tie for third. Scores improved acrossed the board for the second 18 holes of the 11-team event. That was certainly true for Basiletti, who carded a 2-over 73, and for D'Amico with his 1-over 72.
Basiletti eagled No. 18 -- his ninth of the round -- and also tallied three birdies. D'Amico had two birdies and three bogeys and came in in 35. Cincinnati Christian's Noah Lung leads individually after two rounds at 74-71. That is one shot in front of Jared Lowmaster of Rio Grande (76-70), two in front of IU East's Tyler Pearson (74-73), three in front of Basiletti and four in front of D'Amico and Brescia's Trevor Brown (74-75).
Point Park's Nick Finoli is tied for 27th after shooting 81-80 on Monday. Justin Guzik (80-82) and Rafael Perez (85-80) rounded out the team scoring, and Alex Smith (91-86) is competing as one of three individuals in the tournament.
The final round of 18 holes will be Tuesday starting at 9 a.m. with tee times going off of No. 1 every 10 minutes. The Pioneers are in the first group to go off at 9 a.m. and are paired with University of Rio Grande and IU Kokomo.
