Point Park XC teams back in action Friday at Huntington (Ind.)

HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- The Point Park University men's and women's cross country teams are in Huntington, Ind., for the Huntington (Ind.) University Invitational to be held Friday night, Oct. 2. For the Pioneers' teams, it's getting back into action for their first meet since Sept. 11.

Friday night's meet is a chance for the Pioneers to compete against some of the top cross country teams in the midwest portion of the NAIA. They will also get to race against a couple of River States Conference schools with IU Kokomo and IU East in attendance. The rest of the RSC teams will be at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday, but the Pioneers opted to go to Huntington this year instead.

"Our student-athletes seem to be looking forward to the schedule as it allows us to see some solid competition -- including a few of the top teams in the NAIA," head coach Jim Spisak said of the schedule before the season. " It will take us to some new places to race. We're hoping this sets up well for our final meet of the fall, the RSC meet at Indiana East on November 7."

The Pioneers missed their chance to get a preview of the conference meet when they stayed home from the IU East Invitational Sept. 19 due precautions taking with COVID-19. But they will get their chance soon enough on Friday night. The same is true for their next meet after that, where they will see even more RSC opponents at the Asbury (Ky.) University on Oct. 24 in Wilmore, Ky.

Check back later at PointParkSports.com for results and coverage of the Huntington (Ind.) Invitational. The women's race kicks things off at 5:30 p.m. ET followed by the men's race at 6:15 p.m. ET. Follow the Pioneers on social media @PointParkSports and @pointparkxctf hashtag #PPUXC.
