(RV) Point Park divides a split DH on Wednesday

Point Park University baseball split a split doubleheader on Wednesday. The Pioneers (12-6) started the day with a 10-1 victory over Penn State-New Kensington. Point Park was the home team in the game played at No Offseason Sports in Tarentum, Pa.

The Pioneers then made the almost two-hour drive to Showers Field to play at Penn State-DuBois. The Pioneers were not as fortunate with a 6-1 loss with just part of the team going to play that game.

That leads right into this week'[s River States Conference series versus WVU Tech, which was moved up to Thursday and Friday. The series will be played at Pullman Park in Butler, Pa., with the first two games as part of a doubleheader on Thursday at 12:00 p.m.

POINT PARK 10, PENN STATE-NEW KENSINGTON 1
The Pioneers broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth for a 9-1 lead. The long ball played a key factor as Gianmarco Marcelletti blasted his sixth homer of the year to get the scoring started. His two-run shot made it 2-0 in the fourth. He was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, and he jump-started the six-run fifth with a base hit to drive in a run.

Carlos Burroughs capped off the big fifth inning with a three-run homer. The towering shot to center field made the score 9-1.

Omar Morillo drove in two runs, first with a base hit in the fourth and then with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Luis Mujica was on base three times with a hit and an RBI.

Ty Andrews was on base three times and scored three runs. Isaac Santana was 1 for 1 but on base four times with a walk and two hit batters. He scored twice.

Kenneth Rolon pitched 5.0 strong innings to get the win. He is 1-0 after holding PSU-New Ken to four hits, three of which were singles. He struck out six and walked none.

Jose Moreno and Tyler Pullin pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings, repsectively. They each worked around a one-out hit with strikeouts. Moreno struck out the side in the sixth while Pullin made two Ks.

PENN STATE-DUBOIS 6, POINT PARK
The Pioneers could not get much offense going, and three big field errors resulted in five of Penn State-DuBois' runs being earnend in a 6-1 loss.

Point Park was held off the scorebook until the seventh inning, when Carlos Burroughs smashed a solo homer. It was his second of the day and fourth of the year.

The Pioneers had seven hits from seven different players. Nolan Walters threw a good game for Penn State-DuBois limiting the Pioneers to five hits in his 5.0 innings. He got the win with nine strikeouts and no walks.

A pair of errors in the bottom of the third opened things up for a three-run inning and a 4-0 lead for Penn State-DuBois. Another uearned run came the next inning.

Ramon Medina started for Point Park and pitched 3.0 innings. Following with 1.0 inning each were John Hawley, Jonathan Pacheco and Javier Cardoso.
